The Parent‐Child Assistance Program (PCAP) is an award winning, evidence‐informed home visitation and case‐management model for pregnant and parenting mothers with substance use disorders. PCAP goals are to help mothers build healthy families and prevent future children from being exposed to alcohol or drugs prenatally.

Overview
The Problem
Prenatal alcohol and drug use disorders put mothers and children at risk due to:
- likelihood of harmful effects on mothers’ health and well-being
- possible effects of prenatal exposure on children’s health and development
- potential risks to the stability of their home environments
The Goals of PCAP
The goals of PCAP are to help mothers with substance use disorders to:
- build and maintain healthy, independent lives free of substance-related problems
- prevent any future children from being exposed to alcohol and drugs prenatally
The PCAP Approach
Pregnant and parenting mothers are enrolled for 3 years as PCAP seeks to:
- provide outreach, practical assistance, structured goal-setting, problem-solving, and coaching
- connect clients to recovery supports, including community, social, and health care services
