The Parent‐Child Assistance Program (PCAP) is an award winning, evidence‐informed, intensive case‐management model for pregnant and parenting individuals who have engaged in at-risk substance use during pregnancy.

PCAP’s primary mission is to decrease the likelihood that future children will be exposed to alcohol or drugs prenatally.

Overview

The Problem

Prenatal alcohol and drug use disorders put parents and children at risk due to:

likelihood of harmful effects on parents’ health and well-being
possible effects of prenatal exposure on children’s health and development
potential risks to the stability of their home environments

The Goals of PCAP

In service of its mission, PCAP seeks to help parents with at-risk substance use to:

achieve long-term recovery from substance use disorders
engage in family planning to avoid unintended pregnancies

The PCAP Approach

Pregnant and parenting mothers are enrolled for 3 years as PCAP seeks to:

provide outreach, practical assistance, structured goal-setting, problem-solving, and coaching
connect clients to recovery supports, including community, social, and health care services
